Matt Carney, PhD is a cofounder and the CTO of KnowEsys, cofounder and CEO of Open Standard Industries a pandemic response effort, and is a research affiliate at the MIT Media Lab. His technical leadership builds on more than 18 years of fast-paced hardware development split between academics and industry, where he has driven advancements in: humanoid robotics, powered prostheses, medical devices, consumer electronics, and clean-energy systems. He is a named inventor on 7 granted US Patents, and 11 academic publications. Dr. Carney earned a Ph.D. and master of science at the MIT Media Lab (2020, 2015), and a master of science and bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley (2008), and Cal Poly (2004). 

 

Dr. Carney’s PhD work is displayed on a 2020 US Postage Stamp and permanently installed on the walls of the MIT campus. His work was also featured in Bloomberg: Prognosis where it has more than 4M views on Youtube. He has been a named shout-out in two TED talks, his work was shown in a third and is even noted in a children’s book. Dr. Carney speaks regularly with youths and has been an invited speaker at the Alpbach Forum, TEDx, EmTech France, and Solidworks World.
